Michelle is a bilingual (Spanish/English) Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in working with children and families to address anxiety, ADHD, autism, and other special educational needs, social skills, emotion dysregulation, trauma, abuse and/or neglect, life transitions and acculturation/reunification issues. She has a decade of experience working with children in a variety of settings, including a therapeutic group home, Child Protective Services, and elementary schools.
Clients are experts of their own life experiences and Michelle sees it as her job as a therapist to give clients the space to work through those experiences. She helps clients develop their strengths by providing a safe space where they can gain insight, explore possibilities, develop coping skills, and process traumas & losses. Michelle uses evidence-based practices as well as play or sensory-based activities to provide treatment that is compatible with an individual’s strengths and goals. She also works with parents who are going through this challenging time and are working to support their families.
Michelle received her Bachelor’ Degree of Psychology and Spanish from the University of Mary Washington and her Master of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She also has received extensive training in trauma-focused therapy and is a Certified Clinical Trauma and Resilience Practitioner (CTRP-C).
