Zakiyyah Ibrahim, LGPC

Practicing Since: 2024

As a therapist, Zakiyyah aspires to create a warm, non-judgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore their emotions and experiences. Drawing from ACT, interpersonal, psychodynamic, and humanistic approaches, she works to foster a genuine connection with each client by prioritizing empathetic responses by actively listening and validating their emotions, helping my clients feel truly heard. Zakiyyah’s approach encourages self-awareness and insight, guiding clients to recognize patterns and align their actions with their values. Through authenticity and compassion, she supports clients in navigating challenges and embracing growth in a safe, supportive space.

Zakiyyah views mental health as both a societal and individual issue—something that affects and is influenced by the world around us, but also deeply personal. Mental Health is something that can be worked on communally and individually, with healing and growth happening in both spaces. It is more beneficial, however, to discuss it with one another to help break stigmas and societal norms. Therapeutic processes, such as talk therapy, which she has experienced, offer a valuable opportunity for continuous self-exploration, and growth. It provides a space better to understand your emotions, patterns, and experiences, helping you build awareness and resilience. Therapy is not just about overcoming challenges, but fostering a deeper, more compassionate connection with self.

Throughout her undergraduate and graduate studies, Zakiyyah has worked extensively as a research assistant, where she developed a deep appreciation for conducting experiments and exploring the intricacies of the human psyche. This experience allowed her to gain valuable insights into various psychological phenomena and cultivate a rigorous, research-driven approach to therapy. She is particularly interested in the intersection of neurodivergence in women and people of color, as well as anxiety disorders, mood disorders, sexual trauma, complex PTSD, and identity-related issues. These areas are at the core of Zakiyyah’s professional focus, shaping her approach to mental health treatment.

Zakiyyah is the proud owner of a lovely black cat named Langston! And outside of therapy, some of her interests include reading books, writing poetry, painting, visiting museums all around the East Coast, watching foreign films, and doing crossword puzzles.

Zakiyyah Ibrahim is licensed in the state of Maryland (#LGP15758) under the clinical supervision of Miranda Layton, LCSW-C (#13740).
