Know: Through conversation and exploration, the counselor gets to know the client’s story, not just facts about him or her.

Speak: Through caring and knowing, Fred seeks to earn the right to speak truth into the client’s situation. Not his truth, but the truth based on the client’s stated values, beliefs, observations, insights, and things discovered in our counseling sessions.

Do: Fred will create a plan with the client for their work together, periodic action plans, and sometimes he will assign homework.

Issues/Disorders: Addiction (Process i.e. food, gambling, other), Anxiety/Panic, Blended Family, Chronic Illness/Pain, Depression, Faith/Spirituality, Geriatric, Grief/Bereavement, Loss/Abandonment, Self-esteem/self-worth, Self-harm, Women’s issues

Special Populations Served: Adolescents, Adults

What clients should expect: Sarah enjoys working with those invested in a desire for personal growth and are open to engaging in using a creative process as a part of their healing journey, those who like to work with their hands, and creative thinkers. Sarah embraces a holistic approach: identifying connections between mind, body, and spirit while engaging all the senses in a purposeful way. As a clinician, she utilizes an integrated blend of traditional talk therapy, art therapy, and mindfulness approaches based on the client’s needs and preferences.

Sarah feels that therapy can be a creative, playful, and collaborative process. She uses an active, client-centered way of approaching therapy goals, helping the client recognize and build on their own strengths to bring positive change. Sarah wants to help her clients tell their unique story in the safety of the space created together so that the client is able to own their story, processing through it and create a new chapter as they move forward in healing. The therapeutic relationship offers a safe, accepting space for clients to learn more about themselves and develop strategies to feel better. The client is then empowered to shift their perspective and circumstances to lead a more balanced life.

What to expect from Art Therapy:

NO ART EXPERIENCE or “SKILLS” REQUIRED

Art Therapy is the therapeutic use of the creative process which may include use of traditional art materials as well as guided imagery, mindfulness, or creative thinking. Using art in counseling stimulates the brain in areas unreachable by verbal means alone. It provides direct links to meditative, reflective practices and modes of relaxation; can allow the opportunity to enhance creative thinking and problem solving.

For those clients who desire, Sarah can incorporate faith-based perspectives into the sessions. Sarah can help the client reflect on their personal faith as a source of strength during therapy incorporating mind, body, and spirit.

About: Sarah considers herself a student of life, always pursuing personal growth and expanding her expertise professionally to meet the needs of clients. Sarah enjoys all things DIY, including gardening, natural living and essential oils. She enjoys spending time in nature, listening to music, being creative with her children, and snuggling with her dog.

Special Populations Served: Adults, Couples, Clients referred by criminal justice system dealing with anger

What Clients Can Expect: Dr. Lawler approaches every client with a willingness to listen and not be judgmental. He will take the time to get to know each client to have a full understanding of their presenting problems, family life, past and present experience with relationships, and any other background information to assist him in helping his client in the best way possible. Psychotherapy begins with an agreement between counselor and client with a specific goal such as when a person is depressed and wants to feel better or has a phobia and can’t cross a bridge. It may be more general and involve repeated failures in relationships, goal issues, low self-worth, and long-term personality issues. In the latter case, Dr. Lawler will go deeper to understand how influences from the client’s past may have set them up for difficulties in the present. Dr. Lawler’s goal is to help the client “clean up their psychic house” allowing more room for God to enter. He uses a variety of proven psychological approaches that have been shown to work but never forgets that the relationships with his clients is the main driver of healing.
